Panorama launches “Tag”, the future of QR

An innovative system for reading content on mobile devices
The new technology makes its debut tomorrow on newsstands

Panorama takes another step forward in the world of multimedia information with the launch of “Tag”, an innovative technology designed to access extra content using mobile devices.

In the issue on newsstands tomorrow, Friday 28 January, Panorama will provide all of its readers with the new Tag code, which is fast and easy to use and makes it possible to connect much more rapidly to the web, superseding the previous QR technology exclusively introduced by Panorama in 2009.

The weekly edited by Giorgio Mulè is consequently pursuing, for the first time in Italy, a new form of multimedia content integration.

Following the debut of QR, AR “augmented reality”, VIP™ (Video In Print) and 3D the Mondadori newsmagazine confirms its commitment to innovation by continuing to experiment new ways of integrating the printed page with new digital technologies. And Panorama continues to push back the frontiers of news and information by embracing the broadest range of technological platforms.

Advertisers have also decided to bet of the innovation proposed by Panorama with the Tag technology and, in the next issue, four clients – IBM, Edison, Ecolamp and Kangra – will try out the new system inside the spaces dedicated to them.

Tag is a simple colour code that is easy to use and makes it possible to see video clips or access information of any kind. All you need to do is to capture the code with the lens of a smartphone or similar device and the multimedia content (video, audio and surveys, etc.) will appear on the display.

The software to read the Tag system is unique and works with all mobile devices with a camera and web connection. Installation is automatic and free: just send an SMS with the message “Tagme” to the number 320 20 41 711, or use the browser on your device to access http://gettag.mobi/ and follow the instructions.

Readers of Panorama will find all the necessary information for installation in the next issue of the weekly (and in all subsequent issues).

R101 expands with new presenters and news programmes

The arrival of Isabella Eleodori, Tamy T. and Federico L’Olandese Volante
R101 always closer to its listeners: more music, voices and content

R101 begins 2011 with an expanded schedule of music, voices and content.
After a change of skin at the end of 2010, focusing on an even more exciting music offer, from today R101 will also “sound different” and not only thanks to the big hits of yesterday and today, but above all thanks to some extraordinary new entries.
In fact, joining the R101 team of presenters are Isabella Eleodori, Tamy T., and Federico l’Olandese Volante, personalities who have helped to write the history of Italian radio.

“It’s a start to the year that is full of new features and positive energy for the station,” declared R101’s station manager Guido Monti. “We are delighted that Isabella, Tamy T. and Federico have agreed to accept the challenge and they will be on the air with new and engaging shows,” Monti added. “An offer of music that will be increasingly accurate and exciting, new programmes to add to our consolidated successes: a demonstration that R101 has the listeners at its heart, accompanying them day by day in their normal lives, talking about their dreams and listening to their experiences,” concluded Monti.

R101 also confirms for 2011 all of the traditional pillars of its schedule. Starting with the irresistible comedy of “La Carica di 101” with Cristiano Militello, Paolo Cavallone and Sara, right up to “Superclassifica” with Federica Panicucci; from “Molto personale” with Marco Balestri to the new and mould-breaking programme by Vladimir Luxuria in the role of commentator, and from the unmissable duo Paolo Dini and Lester to the evening entertainment provided by Alberto Davoli and Chiara Lorenzutti.

R101 will increasingly follow its listeners with an increase in live programming: in fact, in January the station will be on the air from 5 in the morning until well into the night, without continuity solutions. At the same time, there will be an increase in the space dedicated to news, with three bulletins every hour: “Ultimo minuto” a 60 second news update, with “In primo piano”, providing more detailed look at news from around the world every twenty minutes.

The new programmes

Federico l’Olandese Volante
A legendary voice of Italian radio, Federico L’Olandese Volante comes to R101 with a daily two-hour Monday-to-Friday programme (from 3 to 5 pm), packed with energy and music. In addition, every Sunday, L’Olandese Volante will be on the air from 2 to 5 pm with a very special programme dedicated to an all-round exploration of new music. Federico L’Olandese Volante, whose real name is Federico Van Stegeren, was born in Deventer, Holland. He began his career when he was very young as an animator, DJ, tourist guide and lifeguard at his father’s hotel on Lake Garda. He became famous with the “Woytila disco Dance” in 1979 and was involved in numerous TV programmes, including “Popcorn” in 1983 with the Band of Jocks and. in the ’90s, “Il gioco dei nove” presented by Gerry Scotti.

Tamy T.
Tamy T. comes to R101 with an evening programme, on the air every day from 7 to 9 pm, which explores the best of Italian and international music production. Better known as Tamara Taylor, her real name, she was born in Johannesburg, South Africa to Italian parents and grew up in a number of different countries, including Australia.

Isabella Eleodori
Isabella will allow listeners to wake up more softly, with a programme of news and entertainment leading up to the “Carica”. She will have the job – every day, from Monday to Friday, from 5 to 7 am, of accompanying listeners who have to get up very early and want a selection of music from when they wake up to the start of the day.

Vladimir Luxuria
At midday, there will be a new programme with Vladimir Luxuria, one of the country’s most corrosive, abrasive and unpredictable commentators. Thirty minutes every day, from Monday to Friday, in the company of her wisdom and viewpoint, covering a range of issues, from news to lifestyle.

“Yesterdance”
A completely new mixed programme, with a selection of the hits that made us dance in the ’70s and ’80s. Two hours of just music, to raise the rhythm of Friday and Saturday night. From 1 to 3 am 3 Yesterdance, takes no hostages.

Il Botto “doubles”
There is big news for R101’s celebrated game “Fai il botto con il tuo compleanno”. In fact, in “Botto” will double its presence and during the week, on different days and at different times, there will more opportunities to win €1,000. “La Carica di 101” will invite listeners to tune in to R101 later in the day to participate in the assignment of more €1,000 prizes.

Apart from this, the rules of the game will be the same as in previous years: every day, from Monday to Friday, a date will be extracted and the first listener with a birthday on the same date to call in, will be the winner of the €1,000 card.

Finally, listeners can also paly “Fai il botto con il tuo compleanno” online at R101.it: until 13 February vouchers worth €101 to be used at Bol.it will be up for grabs.

Publishing: Focus celebrates its 18th anniversary

A special event in Milan to celebrate Italy’s most widely-read monthly
Greetings from space from the astronaut Paolo Nespoli

Focus, Italy’s most widely read monthly is celebrating its eighteenth anniversary with a big event to be held at the Rotonda della Besana in Milan, as part of the big exhibition 2050. Il Pianeta ha bisogno di te (2050. The planet needs you), organised in partnership with London’s Science Museum.

Published by Gruner+Jahr/Mondadori and edited by Sandro Boeri, Focus is Italy’s biggest-selling monthly. It is aimed at a qualified target of people who are curious and interested in discovering the world. Over the years Focus has established itself as an authentic unbounded guide to knowledge. The breadth of the subjects it covers (medicine, geology, archaeology, biology, astrophysics, mathematical and physicals sciences, nature and technology) clear, accurate and rigorous exposition and a use of spectacular and high-impact images are among its distinguishing features.

“Thanks to its unique formula, that combines scientific rigour with simple language,” underline Giacomo Moletto, managing director of Gruner+Jahr/Mondadori, “the magazine’s success has made it a leader in Italian publishing with more than 6 million readers and a circulation of almost 500,000 copies. The Focus brand has become so well known that it has recently been successfully “exported” also to television on the national channel Italia Uno in prime time: further proof of the title’s popularity,” concluded Moletto.

There has also been an excellent response from advertisers: in the period January-December 2010, in terms of pages sold for the monthly, Mondadori Pubblicità recorded an increase of 22% compared with 2009.

This evening’s event will be truly spectacular, thanks to the “transformation” of the Rotonda into a sort of special issue of Focus, with the façade of the church acting as an interactive cover for the magazine.

Guests will be entertained by amazing sets and exciting projections that play with the infrastructure, both inside and outside, of the building, but, above all, they will be able to share a really special moment when greetings will be delivered from space from the astronaut Paolo Nespoli. The special guest star of the event will be DustBot, Italy’s “Wall-E” which has been designed to interact with people.

Mondadori Pubblicità at Pitti Bimbo no.72 with Mondadori Appointment

The space will be personalised with the Il Bambino di Donna Moderna and Grazia Junior brands

From 20 to 22 January Mondadori Pubblicità will be in Florence for Pitti Bimbo no.72, the international trade fair for children’s fashion.

Following the success of recent initiatives at Pitti Uomo, Mondadori Pubblicità will be present also this year with Mondadori Appointment, with a completely new layout and in a new position in Piazzale delle Ghiaie.

The space, which is an exclusive meeting point for professionals from the world of children’s wear and the editorial proposals of the Mondadori Group, has been completely redesigned for this year and personalised with the Grazia Junior and Il Bambino di Donna Moderna brands.

Grazia Junior, to be presented in a preview at Pitti Bimbo, is a new Grazia supplement that will be published for the first time in April.

The new product, dedicated to mothers and children, will offer a mix of fashion, news, beauty and useful features for the “under-10s”. A showcase for what’s new for children this season, selected by the women’s weekly edited by Vera Montanari. Plus: the right style for travelling, playing games and going to school; a mother and child beauty-case; the best of design; accessories, technologies and child-size solutions. In addition: curiosities, celebrities, interviews and expert advice.

Il Bambino di Donna Moderna is the monthly supplement to Donna Moderna dedicated to the world of children from 0 to 12 which will be on newsstands tomorrow with the 20 January issue, to coincide with the opening of Pitti Bimbo.

Donna Moderna, edited by Patrizia Avoledo and Cipriana Dall’Orto, also has a special section of its web site dedicated to children, www.donnamoderna.com/mamme (300,000 page views per month), which is continuously updated with answers and details about childcare and development. The donnamoderna.com web site has a monthly average of 3.7 users.

Mondadori Pubblicità will also be present inside the central pavilion of the Pitti Bimbo exhibition area with a stand where copies of some of the magazines in its portfolio, including Donna Moderna, Grazia, Focus Junior and Focus Pico, will be available.

A new edition of Il Corano (The Koran) from the Islamica series presented to Pope Benedict XVI

Wednesday 19 January – Maurizio Costa, deputy chairman and chief executive of Mondadori, and Pietro Citati, director of the Fondazione Valla, presented a copy of the new edition of The Koran, published in the Islamica series, to Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican.

The Holy Father expressed his gratitude and expressed his approval for this cultural and religious initiative.

“I am extremely honoured that the Holy Father agreed to accept the gift of a copy of the Koran, just as in 2006 he received a special edition of the Bible,” explained Maurizio Costa. “For Mondadori this event is a further recognition of the company’s tradition as a publisher that is careful to give voice to the widest range of opinions and thoughts in respect of the plurality of ideas and values.”

“There have been few and unsatisfactory previous Italian translations and the commentaries were no better,” underlined Pietro Citati. “Now Italians can read the Koran and abandon themselves to its solemn and tumultuous wave. I think there will be many surprises.”

The text, edited by Alberto Ventura, is published in a completely new translation by Ida Zilio-Grandi, who teaches Arabic language and literature at the University of Venice. The work has been overseen with an indispensable linguistic competence which aims to render the Koran clear and comprehensible, in a modern Italian free of the kind of archaic forms that have typified the translations of ancient religious texts.

The extensive commentary, the richest and most complete ever written in a European language, is the work of an international group of scholars – in addition to Ida Zilio-Grandi, Mohammad Ali Amir-Moezzi, Mohyiddin Yahia and Alberto Ventura – in an attempt to explain many of the difficulties and ambiguities in the text and to illuminate for the reader the meaning of each individual verse, the possible difference of interpretation and the stories to which reference is frequently made without sufficient background.

Donna Moderna and Mediafriends present “Bambini rompiscatole. Bambini nelle foto. Foto nelle scatole”

An initiative in support of the victims of abuse and maltreatment

An initiative in support of the victims of abuse and maltreatment

Donna Moderna, the weekly edited by Patrizia Avoledo and Cipriana Dall’Orto, and Mediafriends, the charity set up by Mediaset, Mondadori and Medusa, have combined their forces in a project aimed at providing support fro children who are the victims of abuse and maltreatment.

The initiative will be launched during the Pitti Bimbo, in Florence from 20 to 22 January 2011, with a photographic installation by Enrico Bossan entitled Bambini rompiscatole. Bambini nelle foto. Foto nelle scatole (Pain in the neck kids. Kids in photos. Photos in boxes), which will be open on 21 and 22 January form 10 am to 5 pm at the Magazzini Teatro della Fortezza da Basso (admission free). The exhibition Bambini rompiscatole. Bambini nelle foto. Foto nelle scatole is a reportage featuring 10 photographs by Enrico Bossan that, from the viewpoint of the young guests, give an account of the atmosphere and life of the family home. Each photograph is mounted inside a large cardboard box that symbolises the box in which the dreams, thoughts and desires of children are contained.

Donna Moderna and Mediafriends invite visitors to open the boxes and, as well as discovering the photos, to read the thoughts that important writers have dedicated to these unfortunate kids. The authors: Giorgio Fontana, Fabio Geda, Pietro Grossi, Paolo Giordano, Carlo Lucarelli, Paola Mastrocola, Marco Missiroli, Michela Murgia, Valeria Parrella and Roberto Saviano as well as Dario Fo, who has donated a watercolour done by him.

During the inauguration event the actress Gaia De Laurenti will read some extracts.

The proceeds of the Donna Moderna and Mediafriends project will be devolved to five communities run by the associations CAF and Focolare Maria Regina Onlus in Teramo. Four separate areas for the collection of funds have been identified: healthcare, hospitality, education, leisure.

The companies at Pitti Bimbo will be asked by Donna Moderna and Mediafriends to support the initiative by buying one of the installations. Visitors to the exhibition can contribute by buying posters of the photos as well as by visiting the web sites www.donnamoderna.com and www.mediafriends.it, where they can support the project by making a donation to CAF (www.cafonlus.org) and Focolare Maria Regina Onlus (www.ibambini.it).

Donna Moderna will be present during the entire period of Pitti Bimbo in the exhibition area with a comfort-corner in the Mondadori Appointment space, which is in the heart of the Fortezza da Basso, in the middle of Piazzale delle Ghiaie.
