60 years of Oscar Mondadori: the series that revolutionized the Italian publishing scene.
In 1965 an idea was born, as simple as it was powerful: to bring literature to the general public with affordable paperback editions, sold even at newsstands.
After the first title, Ernest Hemingway’s “Farewell to Arms”, an overwhelming success took off with millions of copies and publications: from classics to Italian and foreign non-fiction, to fantasy and contemporary fiction.
In six decades, the Mondadori Oscars have transformed into a true publishing universe, with thematic collections, revamped graphics, new entries and great returns.
It is a story of passion, innovation and cultural inclusiveness that continues to write its future, book after book.
This year, the Mondadori publishing house and the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation are celebrating the anniversary with dedicated initiatives and a series of meetings recounting this epochal passage in the history of Italian publishing and customs.
The Shareholders’ Meeting, which met today under the chairmanship of Marina Berlusconi, approved the financial statements as of December 31, 2024.
The results were presented by CEO Antonio Porro at the Board of Directors meeting last March 12.
Today’s Shareholders’ Meeting also resolved to distribute a unit dividend of €0.14 for each ordinary share (net of treasury shares) outstanding on the record dates, for a total amount of approximately €36.5 million, up 17 percent from the previous year: this amount corresponds to a pay-out of 60 percent of net income 2024.
Mondadori Group’s results for the first quarter of 2025.
The Board of Directors approved the results of Mondadori Group as of March 31, 2025, presented by CEO Antonio Porro. The first quarter closed with revenues of 164.4 million and adjusted Ebitda of 1.8 million.
“The economic and financial figures achieved by our Group during the first quarter of the year are in line with our forecasts: they reflect the overall weakness that characterized the book market in the first quarter, and which we estimate will continue throughout the first half of the year. During the course of the year we expect a recovery in the market environment and a positive effect on the Group’s performance brought about by the greater richness of the publishing proposal of our publishing houses. All this allows us to confirm the objectives defined for fiscal year 2025,” Antonio Porro stressed.
We had the pleasure of welcoming the students of Fondazione Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori’s Master in Publishing program for a morning of discussion and dialogue.
As part of “Crossroads,” a course conceived as a space for orientation and reflection on the professional future, a valuable opportunity was created to get to know our Group closely through the voices of the people who are part of it.
A real crossroads of experiences and visions between those who are about to enter the world of work and those who are already protagonists of it.
Francesca Rigolio, Head of Human Resources area Books & Chief Sustainability Officer of the Mondadori Group, gave the welcome address, introducing the key themes of the meeting with a look at the value of culture, sustainability and people. This was followed by speakers Marco Corsi, Editor Paperback and Classics at Mondadori, Luisa Rinaldi, Editor Humanities Area Secondary School First Grade of Mondadori Education, Valeria Sampaoli, Communication Specialist of BU Ragazzi. Concluding the session was the testimony of Francesco Anzelmo, General Manager of the Mondadori publishing house, who recalled how fundamental it is to create bridges between generations, in the name of listening, confrontation and shared passion.
The morning concluded with a visit to Palazzo Mondadori led by Chiara Capuzzi, head of Purchasing, Services and Real Estate for our Group, who took participants on a journey to discover the special features of the iconic building designed by Oscar Niemeyer.
