Bob Krieger “iCONS”

New appointment with "ST-ART, ARTIST OF THE MONTH. Today’s and tomorrow’s masters on show", promoted by Mondadori Store

  • Mondadori Megastore – Milano, piazza Duomo 1
  • 8 November > 11 December 2016
  • Open: 9 am – 11 pm|free entrance

What is Carlo Cracco doing next to Linda Evangelista? And Gualtiero Marchesi alongside Charlotte Rampling?  In the collective imagination, little could be as distant as a chef and a model. Two antithetical worlds,  in opposition but… are they also incompatible? Not if the observation point is fame, notoriety, beauty. When food and its, now immortalised, creators are on the same plain as the image of a beautiful woman. With a keen and deep eye, and at the same time, with an irony that has always characterised him, Bob Krieger proposes his latest work: iCONS. Alongside familiar faces of timeless beauty from fashion and world cinema, which his lens captures with an unmistakable style, Krieger presents the new stars of Made in Italy, the “ambassadors of taste”, of an exquisitely Italian capacity to express the excellence of our food. iCONS is a fun, irreverent and, at the same time, current way of portraying authentic icons of style and passion.

“This show,” says Ferruccio De Bortoli in the preface of the volume iCONS (Electa), “brings together the  Krieger’s photographs of the fashion of the moment, cooking, with the fashion we are familiar with, and of which he is the high priest with a camera instead of scissors. The chefs and the models. A bold approach because the latter, in order to stay on catwalk, have to keep away from the kitchen. But it has within it, a socially useful message, and can be safely described as a small manifesto against anorexia… And in the work of the chefs – who not only satisfy our tastes but with maniacal precision oversee the aesthetics of their dishes – there is an artistic inclination that brings them closer to designers. Bob Krieger’s photographic wit captures the curious expressions of Cracco, Oldani and his colleagues, and offers us again the timeless charm of the most acclaimed models. Krieger has stopped time, with a click. The subjects portrayed give themselves up to him with a surprising abandon. But great photographers also have a hypnotic power.”

The exhibition will be presented, during a special evening,  on 15 November by the chairman of Mondadori Retail, Mario Resca, the inspiration behind “St-Art. Artist of the month. Today’s and tomorrow’s masters on show”, a cultural project designed and promoted by Mondadori Megastore in collaboration with Milo Goj’s Art Relation.  For over a year, at the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo 1 and Via Marghera 28, important young talent have alternated with established artists, on collections that aim to draw the public in to contemporary art and, thanks also to accessible prices, enable the general public to begin collecting.

A new illuminated installation by the artist Marco Lodola at the Piazza Duomo Megastore remembers the unforgettable moment 10 years ago when Italy won the World Cup

Mondadori Store is giving the city of Milan a new work by Italian artist Marco Lodola, on display on the façade of the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo to mark the 10th anniversary of Italy’s victory in the World Cup.

A 3 metre-tall illuminated installation, in plexiglass and LED, celebrating the final of the 2006 World Cup through one of its unforgettable moments, the infamous head-butt of Zinedine Zidane against Marco Materazzi. The work is entitled Mio cugino, a reference to the history that binds Italy to its “cousins” on the other side of the Alps.

The installation will be switched on this evening and visible in Piazza Duomo for the whole summer, coinciding with the season’s big football events.

Marco Lodola, an artist with a taste for pop who explores in his work the legends of contemporary popular culture, has already produced for the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo Eden, the ballerina that illuminated the balcony of the Milan store last year and is now on display inside the Mondadori Megastore in via Marghera, in Milan.

With Mio cugino, Lodola Italy responds to the sculpture by the French artist, Adel Abdessemed, first shown at the Centre George Pompidou in Paris and now at the Mathaf Museum of Contemporary Art in Doha, dedicated to the same episode that led to much debate among the world’s football fans.
The initiative is curated by the artistic promotions agency Avangart Connessioni Creative.

St-Art, artist of the month

7 emerging talents on show at the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo in Milan

On 8 September at 6 pm the opening of artist Marco Abisso’s first exhibition

St-Art, artist of the month is the latest cultural project by Mondadori Store, developed in collaboration with Milo Goj’s Art Relation, which aims to present and enhance the reputations of young artists while also expanding the audience for contemporary art.

From 8 September, and then every month, until March 2016, a young exponent of the contemporary art scene will be the protagonist of an month-long exhibition at the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo in Milan. The first seven artists are three Italian – Marco Abisso, Giovanni Manzoni Piazzalunga and Stefany Savino – and four non-Italian – Alban Met Hasani, Jang Sung An, Kalina Danailova and Lucia Guadalupe Guillen, all of whom have trained in Italy at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.

The cycle of seven exhibitions will begin 8 September at 6pm with Marco Abisso, a Milanese sculptor and painter, with a music-inspired show that will run until 11 October 2015. In his work Abisso tries to re-establish a symbolic value in the romantic gesture of creating an manufactured object. The artist will also use a live performance to interact with the public using his artistic language to bend and beat sheet metal.

Each show will be inaugurated with a performance by the artist who will complete, in front of an audience, a work-in-progress – a painting, installation or digital form – inspired by a specific theme: from music to fashion, to literature, to travel. The finished works will then be put on sale in an effort to bring a wider public closer to art.

“In the contemporary world it is important to support the creative explorations of young artists with fresh ideas and hopes,” said Giacinto di Pietrantonio – curator and art expert who will introduce the Marco Abisso exhibition tomorrow. “This is what is at the heart of St-Art, Artist of the month, promoted by Mondadori Store, a project that brings young artists into direct contact with the public and offers a space to discuss and debate new ideas and forms also for the future. And also to understand, through exposure to the work, the and emerging new trends.”

Patron of the St-Art, Artist of the Month project is the artist Marco Lodola, who, for the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo, created Eden, a neon installation that can be seen on the façade of the store and which represents a luminous, a female symbol of an uncontaminated Eden holding a red apple, the colour of passion. A precise reference to the large illuminated advertising signs that from 1915 onwards appeared on the facades of the buildings around Piazza Duomo until they were forcibly removed in 1999.

Mondadori Store opens its doors to the world of art

Marco Lodola has designed the lighting installation for the Piazza Duomo store in Milan

And from September a new project involving emerging talents from the art world

Mondadori Store is opening its doors to the world of art with a series of initiatives to promote contemporary artistic expression at the Megastore in Piazza Duomo in Milan.

Inaugurating this new cycle of events will be the Italian artist Marco Lodola who has created an installation for the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo entitled Eden; a neon installation that portrays a luminous dancer, symbolising feminility and uncontaminated Eden, holding a red apple, the colour of life and passion. The work by Lodola – who has been active in sculpture with pop-art inspired luminous installations for many years – will be visible to passers-by from the front of the Piazza Duomo Store and is a brand new homage to Milan, recalling the advertising posters of the past that illuminated the city centre in the 1960s.

This autumn, meanwhile, will see the launch of St-Art, artist of the month: in which the Mondadori Megastore in Piazza Duomo will feature work by young artists, along with live performances and temporary exhibitions.

The project, developed in collaboration with Milo Goj’s Art Relation, aims to promote emerging artists under 40 and bringing them into contact with a broad-based public. A calendar of exhibitions with which the Mondadori Store wants to draw people to art and its young exponents, also with the possibility of buying works and creating a place for exchange and debate with the artists and the curator.

The first artist to exhibit in September as part of the St-Art project will be Marco Abisso: a Milan-based sculptor and painter, born in 1980, and graduate of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, who uses a range of materials in his work that includes metal, wood and oils.
